Local Service Projects

We pride ourselves on integrating our membership with the community, seeking out needs and developing solutions. Here is a sampling of some projects we’ve done or are doing locally.

Sleep Cubbies Project

This is a project that started in 2022/2023 when President Jay Murphy introduced a multi-year large scale project that our club is supporting, both financially and via volunteers.  The project has grown to where it is now its own 501.c.3 called Sleep Cubbies, Inc.  Please click HERE to see details of the project.

Halloween Books Instead of Candy Project

This project began in 2010 when the Encanto Palmcroft neighborhood decided that it would be better to provide books to young kids rather than candy.  Each year, they distribute roughly 4000 books to about 2000 kids on Halloween night.  They block off the street, and volunteers from Rotary Interact Clubs, Rotaract Clubs, and Rotary Clubs all volunteer by helping the kids pick out books of interest.  Please join us on Halloween night.  Contact Jay Murphy.

Families Giving Back Volunteer Project - Assembling toiletry bags for Bey's Blessings

Rotary100 Families Giving Back is an opportunity for parents, guardians or family members to bring their child(ren) between the ages of 3 and 12 (or older to assist the younger kids!) to volunteer. For March, we will be assembling toiletry bags for an organization called Bey's Blessings. Bey's Blessings is a 501c-3 non-profit dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of the unsheltered community in Maricopa County. They provide support primarily by way of Blessing Bags (which we will be assembling), Emergency Family Support, and Community Engagement. Their mission is to serve the community one bag at a time and are dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need by providing these essential resources.
Scroll all the way down to register!
Events are short - only 1 hour and children will learn about their impact on the community and how they are helping. This event is open to all, including Rotarians and non-Rotarians, as we introduce children and more families to Rotary's important mission to make our world a better place. So please share the details and come on down with your kids, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and make a difference in your community.
Remember, you must register for this opportunity. The volunteer project will take place from 9:30am-10:30am and we start at 9:30 sharp! The cost to do this event for the necessary supplies is $15 per child. Here are the details: When: Saturday, March 30, 2024, 9:30am - 10:30am
Where: Southwest Human Development 2850 N 24th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008 Cost: $15 per participating child to cover the cost of supplies

Volunteers Needed - Speech Contest on Saturday, April 6th

We are excited about this year's speech contest to be held on April 6th on the Floor of the House of Representatives at the State Capitol!

We ask you to sign up for volunteer roles in both the morning and afternoon. The highest priority is in the morning.  Sign-ups are first-come, first served. If you find that you can no longer volunteer, please contact Ted Haynes right away so that we may make your assignment available for another volunteer.

Please arrive by 8:00am unless you've been asked to come earlier. Parking will be available at the lot on the NW corner of Adams and 17th Ave. Walk south across Adams and into the front (south) entrance to the House of Representatives where you will pass through security and up one flight of stairs to check in/registration. Coffee and snacks will be provided in the basement of the building.

A simple mandatory 30-minute training will be provided in Hearing Room #2 for all volunteers (just prior to the commencement of the preliminary round). Please note that only those who have received this training and served as a judge on April 6th will be allowed to serve as a judge in the April 19th Upper Division Finals at the Rotary Friday luncheon.

Afternoon arrival must be by 12:30 so that the same 30-minute  training will be provided prior to the afternoon's Lower Division Finals and Upper Division Semifinals.

If you've already signed up with Ted Haynes, there's no need to sign up again.  The link to sign up is found HERE.

You can find contest information and all the rules at https://Rotary100.org/speech-contest/.

Thanks for volunteering!
